What to Bring to a Picnic: The Complete Checklist

Food, comfort, weather gear and the small things everyone forgets. Use this list before your next picnic.

Whether you are planning a casual afternoon in the park or a styled picnic, a little preparation makes the day so much easier. Here is my checklist.

Food and drinks

  • Easy finger foods: sandwiches, wraps, fruit, cheese and crackers
  • A cake or dessert that travels well
  • Plenty of water, plus a cooler with ice packs
  • A cutting board and knife if you are slicing anything
  • Containers or bags for leftovers

Comfort

  • A blanket or rug, plus cushions for longer picnics
  • A light layer for evenings by the lake
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Bug spray for summer evenings
  • Wet wipes and hand sanitizer

Weather

  • An umbrella for shade on sunny days
  • A backup plan or date if rain is in the forecast

The little things people forget

  • Napkins and a trash bag
  • A bottle opener
  • A phone charger or power bank
  • A small speaker at low volume, if your park allows it
  • A lighter for candles

What a styled picnic already includes

When you book a picnic with me, you can skip most of this list. Every setup includes wooden tables, rugs, plush cushions, fresh flowers, plates, cotton napkins, utensils, placemats, a runner and candles, along with setup and cleanup. You bring the food, drinks and your favorite people. I take care of the rest.
