Proposal Setups in Chicago

Chicago Luxury Picnic & Decoration by Paula designs the moment you ask, with candles, flowers and a skyline or garden setting planned in secret and ready when you arrive, across Chicago and the suburbs.

Proposal planning

Everything you are nervous about, planned

You bring the ring. Paula plans the place, the setup, the timing and the backup plan.

Keeping the proposal a secret until the last second

The setup only works if your partner has no idea. Paula plans everything with you directly, by text, and never contacts your partner. She sets up while you are still on your way and times the finish to your arrival.

You get a simple walk-up plan: where to park, which path to take and where to stand. One client who planned a surprise proposal said Paula made sure everything was exactly how he wanted, and his fiancée loved the setup.

Finding the perfect proposal spot in Chicago

Paula’s favorite place to propose is Milton Lee Olive Park, the man-made peninsula just north of Navy Pier. Its deck reaches out over the lake and looks back across the water at the city, so the skyline sits right behind you in every photo.

It is not the only option. Paula also sets up proposals in quieter lakefront lawns, in Evanston parks, in backyards and in private rooms. Olive Park is managed separately from most city parks, so she will walk you through the rules before you choose it.

A setup that looks amazing in the photos

You will look at these pictures for the rest of your life. Paula designs the setup to photograph well from the angle your photographer, or a hidden friend, will shoot from.

That can mean a low picnic table with cushions and candles, a floral or balloon backdrop, rose petals or a LOVE sign. She uses fresh flowers and real candles, and she places everything so the view, the setup and the two of you fit in one frame.

What happens if it rains on proposal day

Chicago weather does not always cooperate. If rain is in the forecast, Paula will move your proposal to another day or help you shift it to a covered or indoor space you have access to.

You will decide together a day or two ahead, so the morning of your proposal is about nerves of the good kind. Paula has rescheduled weather-hit events for clients before, and she is calm about it.

Celebrating after they say yes

The proposal is the first chapter. Many couples bring Paula back for the engagement party, with a candlelit welcome sign, floral backdrops, balloon arches and fully styled tables at a restaurant or venue.

If you would like, she can plan both at once so the proposal setup and the party share the same colors and flowers. It is a small detail that makes the whole story feel connected.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should I book a proposal setup?

As soon as you know the date, because weekends in summer and fall fill up first. Paula has also pulled together last-minute setups when her schedule allowed, so it is always worth asking even if your date is close.

What if it rains on proposal day?

Paula will move your setup to another date, or help you shift it to a backyard, balcony or private room you have access to. You will make the call together a day or two ahead, so you are not refreshing the forecast on the morning you propose.

Can you keep it a secret from my partner?

Yes. Paula coordinates only with you, by text, and plans your arrival time and route so your partner sees nothing until the moment you want them to.

Can you set up a proposal at Olive Park?

Olive Park is Paula’s favorite proposal spot. It is managed separately from most Chicago Park District parks, so Paula will talk through the rules for your plans before you book. She can suggest equally beautiful alternatives if you prefer.

Can you decorate the engagement party too?

Yes. Many couples come back for the engagement party, with a welcome sign, candles, florals and balloon or floral backdrops at a restaurant or venue. Ask about both when you request your quote.
